ABBEY CREDIT UNION ACQUIRES
GREATER MIAMI COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

The merger of Abbey Credit Union and Greater Miami Community Federal Credit Union (GMCFCU) is good news for members of both credit unions. "The main advantage of this merger is the growth factor," President/CEO of Abbey Credit Union, Lynn Cook said. "Upon completion of updating and merging the two credit unions, this merger will eventually provide two convenient locations to better serve all members."

It's a perfect union, with a common bond. Both credit unions are non-profit cooperatives with dedicated members, and both are member-owned and member-focused. Consolidating two financially sound credit unions, their operations and technologies, is economically-smart.

The Greater Miami Community Federal Credit Union, located at 1341 Wayne Street in Troy, will become Abbey Credit Union. "There's a lot of work to be completed before both credit unions will be ready to combine banking for each of their respective members," according to Cook. "Sometime in mid-summer, members will be able to complete financial transactions at either location. We have some work to do before this merger is complete. Until then, members should continue their financial transactions at their current credit union location."

Mona Mains, former Chief Executive Officer for GMCFCU, will become the Branch Manager at the Troy location. Abbey will retain all of Greater Miami's current employees.

New VISA Debit and ATM Cards

Members were sent new ATM or VISA Debit Card in late October that will replace your current card. For enhanced security, we are changing your card number and expiration date to further protect your account. Watch for the MoneyPass surcharge-free ATM network, which has thousands of surcharge-free ATMs coast to coast. When you complete a transaction at any MoneyPass ATM, the credit union or bank who owns the machine will not charge you a surcharge fee. Abbey Credit Union will also remain a member of the Alliance One surcharge-free newtork, which offers similar benefits.

All Abbey members with a Debit Card or ATM card will receive a new card by November. Your new card will offer the same convenient access to your account(s) as your current card.

You will continue to enjoy access to thousands of Alliance One network ATMs nationwide.

Beware Email Scam

We have heard from at least one member who has received a fraudulent email purporting to be from the Internal Revenue Service. The email offers a refund if the recipient provides personal information such as Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. This is an attempt to steal the recipient's personal information - and their money. To learn more about this scam, read this article on the IRS website.

Important Notice/ Federal Privacy Act

Abbey Credit Union will no longer give out account information (i.e. account balances, checks that have cleared, etc.) to members over the phone. This is due to the Federal Privacy Act and to protect the confidentiality of our members' information.

Members may obtain a PIN# for our audio response teller (OTTO) or sign up for Internet banking (Abbey@Home) to obtain account information.
